Aboutus

Suzanne Lasser & Yarina Sencion are educators, each with over 26 years in the field of  English as a New Language and Dual Language. They both began their teaching careers in the Bronx and began working together during summer school in 2002.  One night over dinner in January 2020 Suzanne shared that she wanted to create a podcast that would focus on the stories of being bilingual but she didn't know how. That is when Yarina told her she had actually taken a class about creating a podcast. At that moment they began to plan for the launch of their passion-project, BiLingual in America, the Podcast.  Their first episode launched on July 22, 2020.

The podcast allows them to creatively celebrate the beauty, strength and joy of being bilingual. Each season they have spoken to students, experts in the field, teachers, artists, dancers, publishers, advocates and authors about their  bi/multilingual journey. They continue to expand the conversation around multilingual learners and have aired episodes ranging from Afro-Latinx identity to Native & Indigenous Language and Culture as well as American Sign Language.

If you feel that your work is aligned and you would like to speak with us, reach out so we can see about having your voice become part of an upcoming podcast episode.
